Namu Butsu

So the blog is back. I lost my old hosting account so I reverted back to working on Blogger. On the downside, I can't customize it to all the coolness that it could be because I don't have a place to host my own images. So I am stuck with a generic template. But it works, and it is free, so yay for that.

So I thought I would start off the new blog with some artwork. (which is really why I started the darn thing anyway!) So here is a pic of one of my current work in progresses. This is a charcoal sketch on canvas. (Thanks Douglas, for the leftover GoDaddy charcoal. I have put it to good use.) I have never used charcoal on canvas before was experimenting. It is quite tricky. The charcoal turns to dust almost immediately. And if you happen to touch it or blow on it, it wipes the canvas almost completely clean. This can work to your advantage if you make a mistake. But if you have something going for you that you like, then hold your breath for fear of blowing it all away!

All in all I think that it turned out well. I am committed to this sketch because I already sprayed it with fixative. =) I think that I would like to add some color to it. Probably blues. But I am not sure how that will work out. I haven’t decided what medium to use yet. I debated using acrylic because I think that it will be too opaque and cover it up. I thought about watercolor, but I am not sure how that will blend on such rough canvas. I also thought about maybe trying just oil pastels. Though I envision a more transparent look. * shrug * I will just have to get a blank canvas and experiment with some different stuff to see what would look best. It would be a shame if I ruined such a nice sketch with a poor choice of medium.

I guess we will see how it turns out. I'll keep ya posted. =P

  1. Although, you are not going to get away with not posting on THIS blog. I know you are in deadline land this week, but that excuse will only go so far.... :)

I need to post sometime as well. Ha!

Big Ups on the drawing. It's wonderful.

  2. Very nice! And being able to blow the artwork away is very Buddhist indeed.
