The last few months we have been doing some work on the condo. After Jon took it off the market back in the fall, because of the crashing housing market, he decided that if we were going to stay here for another year or two, then we should at least make some improvements to make our stay more pleasant. To which I gleefully replied "So does this mean that I can paint the bookcases!?!"
So that is where it started. I had been itching to repaint our lovely HUNTER GREEN bookcases. I don't have anything at all against green, but my gawd, that color has no place on the living room walls. Eeeew. So we started by turning this...

...into a much more peaceful, neutral color on the eyes. "Toffee Crunch" is the name of the color. Tasty!

Here's the finished product...

Next I tackled my personal workspace. I had it all picked out at Ikea, but was planning on waiting till after we moved to get a new desk. But since that was looking to be further in the future than originally planned, the heck with it, I needed a happy personal space to work in and was not going to wait!
So I turned my blackhole of a desk...

...into my happy place.
I love the bookcases because I have eveything thing I need for both my web work and my fun scrapbooking and crafting things, out where I have handy access to it. No more digging through boxes in the closet to find my hole punchers! Yays!
Next stop...the kitchen!!
Okay, so the kitchen was really in need of help, and was probably the worst room in the condo. It had old green countertops (again with the green!?) and appliances that were from the original build back in the early 80's.

We had a stove where one of the elements was messed up and you could only use it if you put a heavy pot on it. Plus it was slanted so you had to turn anything in a pan around in circles otherwise it would pool on one side. And it was the only large element!
The washer was off balance and sometimes it would shake so much it would come out from the wall. When it was in the last spin cycle you had to stand against it so that it wouldn't come rocking out of the closet. Good times!
The dishwasher pooped out back last summer and we had to have it replaced. It was only a matter of time before the rest of it went.
We got a call from the Realtor saying that her granite guy had some scrap pieces that would fit our kitchen and we could get a really good deal on it. We decided to go for it and figured we better get our upgrades now and get it all knocked out at once. So after some research and measuring, we headed off to Home Depot to pick out some appliances and a sink.
Ahh the sink...our whole kitchen project pretty much revolved around this sink. At our house, I cook and Jon does the dishes, and he hated the old sink. Hated it with a passion. So the first thing he picked out was "the perfect sink". He had sent the measurements to the granite contractor to make sure everything would fit and even said he would hire a carpenter to move out the cabinets if he had to, in order to get this sink in there. He has an unhealthy love for the sink. Luckily it fit just fine, so no extreme action was needed. =P He also picked out the faucet and I think that whole thing came together beautifully.

The awesome sink...

In addition to the countertops and sink, we also replaced the stove (thank goodness!) and the clunky, buzzing, fluorescent lights. We got a new washer and dryer as well, which was just in time as our old washer died 3 days before our new one was to be delivered. (whew!) So now we have a much happier kitchen, which in turn, makes us much happier people when we have to use it! =D
There are a few more things we plan on doing, but the major project is done. And boy does it feels good!
