Happy Sweethearts Day!

So many people have such a dislike for Valentine's Day. "It is an overly commercialized excuse to spend money so that the jewelry, flowers, and chocolate industries can make a fat buck." But honestly...EVERY holiday is totally commercialized these days. You can't escape it. So I figure, what the hell, just roll with it!

After all, it is fun to dote on each other! It is fun to give and get flowers, gifts and goodies. Any holiday intended to celebrate the ones you love is a good enough excuse for me.

If you want to feel rebellious and not give in to the commercialism and clichés of the holiday then do something really awesome! Spend the day doing something fun together. Do an activity you may not often have the chance to do or try something new. Go on a hike and have a picnic, take a drive, take a new class together, plant a garden, try making a new dinner or dessert recipe at home. Homemade gifts are always a winner. Make a scrapbook of your favorite trip, make a photo collage, knit a scarf, sew a quilt, create a piece of jewelry, bake cookies. There are plenty of fun and creative "non-commercial" ways to spend the day showing someone you care and just having fun together.

And sure, you don't need a "special day" to have an excuse to tell someone that you love them. But admit it, everyone needs a little reminder once in a while. ;)

So Happy Valentine's Day, Chocolate & Flowers Day, Hearts Day, Singles Awareness Day...whatever you choose to call it and however you choose to celebrate, have a good one! <3
